Basic
Fundamental Principles.
- (Changed - 26/12/2007)
On this page I have listed
the "Basic Fundamental Principles" in
order of priority.
It is important that you learn
and incorporate into your game if you wish to play very golf.
Work your way through the list in this
order and practice each one until it becomes embedded into
you subconscious mind before moving onto the next Basic Principle
and you will gradually improve your golf skills, however do
not try to practice more than one item at a time.
I will be highlighting these items throughout
the lessons and therefore all of this information will be
continually repeated, therefore it is advisable to digest
these basic principles before you begin the lessons.
On another page I have listed the "Basic
Fundamental Movements"
"Golf
Grip "
The first thing you must get right.
"Elbows
held close together"
If you wish to play very good golf it
is absolutely vital that the elbows remain held as close together
as it is physically possible throughout the complete golf
swing movement.
Give this your full attention.
"Eyes
focused on the ball"
You must train yourself to watch the ball
and actually see the clubhead make contact with the ball.
One of the first basic principles of the
golf swing that you must learn.
"Head
Position"
The head must be positioned slightly behind
the golf ball at the address position and held in this position
with "pin point accuracy" throughout the golf swing
movement, but especially as the club head swings through the
contact area.
"Hands
Position"
It is vital that you learn to hold the
hands back so that they do not return to the original address
position until the precise moment the club head makes contact
with the ball.
This is one of the most important basic
principles of the golf swing that you must master.
"Fixed
Frontal" position
It is absolutely vital that the head is
firmly held in this position whilst club head moves into and
through the contact area.
After testing various methods of hitting
the ball straight, I have come to the conclusion that this
basic principle is one of the most important keys to playing
very golf.
"Passive"
arms"
The arms must be remain totally passive
to the movement of the shoulder/arms-unit throughout the golf
swing movement.
"Forearms"
If you wish to play very good golf, the forearms must
not be allowed to rotate during the back swing movement.
"Upper
Body Angles"
Maintaining the upper body angles is one
of the major keys to playing very good golf.
It is particularly important to adhere
to this principle so that from the precise moment the club
head makes contact with the ball, the right shoulder will
automatically rotate under the chin as the follow through
movement is performed.
"Address
Position"
The set up is very important.
"Left
Heel"
The heel of the left foot must stay firmly
on the ground throughout the back swing movement.
"Shoulder/Arms-unit"
It is absolutely vital that the shoulders
and the arms are held firmly in this condition throughout
the golf swing. -- I cannot over-stress the importance of
adhering to this Basic Principle.
Learn to use the rotational movement of
the shoulder/arms-unit to totally control the movement of
the arms and your golfing skills will increase dramatically.
"Condition
of the arms"
This is how the arms should be held throughout
the golf swing movement.
"Lower
Back Muscles"
It is absolutely vital that you use the
muscles of the back to rotate the shoulder/arms-unit back
and forth.
"Right
Leg"
The right leg must be kept in a very firm
condition throughout the back swing movement.
"Condition
of the Legs"
These videos show the correct and the incorrect
way to hold the legs as you perform the golf swing movement.
"Lower
Body" condition.
The muscles of the lower body must be
held in a taut condition at all times.
"Bottom
of the Swing Arc"
It is absolutely vital that you swing
the club head to the bottom of the swing arc.
"Impact
Position"
This is how the body should be at this
critical point in the down swing movement.
"Club
Resistance"
There is no need to make any extra effort
to "HIT" the ball as the club head is about to make
contact with the ball.
"Inertia
Effect"
Due to this phenomena, you must allow
for the delay in the various parts of the body.
"Left
Side Dominance"
It is absolutely vital that you adhere
to this principle.
"Parallel
to the Target Line"
The shoulders, the hips, the feet and
the head must always be aligned to the target line.
"Right
Arm"
The right arm plays a slightly passive
role throughout the golf swing but can be used to boost the
velocity of the golf club at the precise moment the club head
strikes the ball but careful use of this facility is important.
"Swing Tempo"
The Golf Swing must be a free flowing
movement.
