Basic Fundamental Principles. (Changed - 23/06/2011)

On this page I have listed the "Basic Fundamental Principles" in order of priority.

I will be highlighting these items throughout the lessons and therefore all of this information will be continually repeated, therefore it is advisable to digest this information before you begin the lessons.

On another page I have listed the "Basic Fundamental Movements"

"Hip Movement"

One of the most fundemental principle that you must be aware of is that the hips must not be allowed to sway away from the original address position at any point in the golf swing.

Although the hips will rotate around its axis, they must not be allowed to sway.

" Eyes focused on the ball"

It is absolutely vital that you focus on the back edge of the golf ball and hold this focus until the club head make contact with the ball, but importantly, you must continue to look at the back edge of the golf ball for a milli-second after the ball has been struck so that you actually see the ball move away from its resting position.

This is relevant be it the tee, the fairway or the rough.

This is the first basic principles of the golf swing that you must learn, if you fail to learn this principle, you will never achieve a low handicap.

"Upper Body Angles"

Maintaining the upper body angles is one of the major keys to playing very good golf.

"Golf Grip "

One of the first thing you must get right.

"Shoulder/Arms-unit"

It is absolutely vital that the shoulders and the arms are held firmly in this condition throughout the golf swing. -- I cannot over-stress the importance of adhering to this Basic Principle so that you can control the alignment of the club face throughout the complete golf swing.

"Elbows held close together"

If you wish to play very good golf it is absolutely vital that the elbows remain held as close together as it is physically possible throughout the complete golf swing movement.

"Head Position"

The head must be positioned so that the left is slightly behind the golf ball at the address position , but importantly, the head must be held in this position as the club head swings through the contact area.

"Hands Position"

It is vital that you ensure that the hands do not go beyond the original address position until the precise moment the club head makes contact with the ball.

"Fixed Frontal" position

It is absolutely vital that the head is firmly held in this condition whilst club head moves into and through the contact area.

"Right Shoulder"

It is absolutely vital that the right shoulder begins to rotate under the chin before the club head strikes the ball.

"Address Position"

The set up is very important.

"Left Heel"

The heel of the left foot must stay firmly on the ground throughout the back swing movement and the right leg must remain slightly bent.

"Right Leg"

The right leg must be kept in a slightly flexed but very firm condition throughout the back swing movement.

"Bottom of the Swing Arc"

It is absolutely vital that you swing the club head to the bottom of the swing arc.

"Impact Position"

This is how the body should be at the critical point of impact.

"Left Side Control"

It is absolutely vital that you adhere to this principle.

"Right Arm"

The right arm plays a slightly passive role throughout the golf swing but is used to boost the velocity of the golf club at the precise moment the club head strikes the ball, but careful use of this facility is important.

"Swing Tempo"

The Golf Swing must be a free flowing movement.
