Sweeping
action of the Golf Swing. (Changed
- 17/12/2008)
To obtain a very good illustration of how the golf swing is
performed, take you normal address
position whilst holding a three wood.
Place a golf ball as if you were to play a normal shot, but then
move it to a position so that it is adjacent to the toe of the left
foot, but importantly, you must continue to keep your head firmly
positioned so that it is directly over the exact centre of your
stance.
Therefore as you look down at the ball, the ball will be positioned
well to the left of your head position and the hands will be position
to the left of the centre of your body.
Now whilst keeping the head firmly over the exact centre of
your stance, use the lower back muscles to rotate a very compact
upper body unit very slowly into a short back swing movement, using
the head as the pivotal point of the back swing movement -- and
then whilst continuing to keep the head firmly positioned over the
exact centre of your stance, simply use a combination of the movement
of the hips and the lower back muscles to rotate the shoulders very
slowly back to the original address position, thus returning the
club head to the ball.
( You will note that at this point you are looking at the top/back
portion of the ball.)
At the precise moment the club head makes contact with the ball,
use the muscles of the left arm to pull the passive arms through
the contact area thus forcing the right arm into the fully straightened
position whilst the movement of the hips and the lower back muscles
continue to force the right shoulder to rotate under the chin, you
would get the feeling of simply sweeping the ball away from the
resting position.
( As the muscles of the left shoulder pull the passive arms through
the contact area you should feel the back muscles on your left side
being activated.)
Therefore the key to playing very good golf is to perform every
golf shot in this manner where the head is held so that the left
eye is slightly behind the ball at the moment of impact and then
using the muscles of the left arm to pull the passive arms through
the contact area, but you must keep the head in the original address
position until well after the ball has been stuck and the upper
body angles must be maintained to the completion of the golf swing.
Obviously they other things to consider, but look at the
video of the frontal view of golf swing and a side
view of the golf swing and notice how the head remains behind
the ball throughout the complete golf swing but also notice how
the club head sweeps the ball away at the moment the club head makes
contact with the ball.
