Lower Back Muscles - Master - (Changed - 02/11/2007)

The average amateur golfer has no idea what muscles are used to rotate the shoulder/arms-unit into the back swing movement.

Therefore the lower back muscles rotate the shoulder/arms-unit to the end of the back swing movement before finally using the shoulder muscles to move the arms independently of the shoulders in order to complete the back swing movement.

During the down swing movement the rotational/pivotal movement of the hips cause the shoulder/arms-unit to begin to rotate into the down swing movement and then as soon as the shoulder/arms-unit begins to move, the lower back muscles work in conjunction with the movement of the hips to force the shoulder/arms-unit to rotate into the down swing movement.

Locating the Lower Back Muscles.

To locate these muscles, put both arms behind your back, clench you fists and lift your arms as high as possible -- the lower back muscles are where the fists touch the body.
