Hip Action- Master - (Changed - 15/09/2008)

Using the movement of the hips to generate extra power.

Any sports activity that use the arms to apply power, (such as boxing, athletic field events, racquet sports, cricket, baseball, golfing etc., ) all of these sports require a rotational movement of the shoulders to generate any significant leverage to the arms.

However, what is not generally acknowledged is that the power generated by the rotational movement of the compact upper body unit can be dramatically enhanced by the correct use of the hips.

For example, in boxing, instead of simply rotating the upper body to deliver a right hand punch, the power of the punching action is significantly increased by co-ordinating a rotational movement of the hips with the rotational movement of the upper body.

Therefore by correctly using the hips during the golf swing, a similar increase in power can be achieved, i.e., by rotating/pivoting the hips in an anti-clockwise motion whilst the compact upper body unit is held momentarily at the end of the back swing movement, thus dramatically increasing the torsion of the muscles between the lower part and the upper part of the body and giving the down swing movement the essential explosive element.
