Hip
Action. (Changed
- 25/07/2010)
During the back swing movement the muscles of the legs remain
in firm condition and the heel of the left foot must remain firmly
on the ground.
If you observe top professional golfers very closely, you will
notice that just before the shoulders reach the absolute end of
the back swing movement, the hips begin to rotate/pivot towards
the target area but without allowing the heel of the right foot
to lift off the ground, thus creating an overlap between the back
swing and the down swing movement.
(Just to clarify, the overlap is where the shoulders are still moving
towards the end of the back swing, whilst the right knee is already
moving towards the target area thus causing the hips to rotate towards
the target area, a situation that most amateur golfers do not create.)
It is vital that you keep the heel of the left foot firmly on the
ground thus ensuring that the hips take control over the rotational
movement of the shoulders during the down swing and the follow through
movements.
