Club resistance - Master- (Changed 26/02/2007)

Most people assume that the force of the clubhead striking the golf ball causes the clubhead to slow down, therefore an attempt to make up this apparent deficiency is made by trying to inject extra power into the stroke just before the club head makes contact with the ball.

However it is important to understand that the weight of the golf club is a lot heavier than the weight of the golf ball, therefore when the clubhead is moving at its maximum velocity and you strike the ball with the centre of the club face, there is hardly any resistance to the clubhead as it makes contact with the ball and any resistance that can be detected, can be deemed as an insignificant amount.

Therefore as you carry out the down swing movement, you must train yourself to watch the ball as you swing the club head through the contact zone with a smooth accelerating movement, -- so that the club head swings through the space that the golf ball occupies-- rather than trying to "HIT" the ball.
