Bunker Technique. (Changed -11/12/2009)

The bunker is a hazard that strikes fear into the heart of most golfers but this is a problem that can be overcome by adopting the correct technique.

Address.

The first tip to remember is that when playing from a bunker is to open the stance slightly. This will create a steep swing angle as you hit down into the sand, approximately an inch behind the ball.

In addition, at the address position the feet should line up to the left of the target whilst the club face should be facing the target.

The Swing.

Carry out a normal golf swing, but ensure that the swing path is aimed towards the left of the target, thus following the line of the feet, but as you perform the golf swing you must focus your eyes on the spot that you want the club head to hit the sand.
Furthermore and most importantly, you must ensure that the swing is a constant accelerating movement right through the contact area and importantly, all the way to the end of the swing, so that the body is facing t
o the left of the target point.

Failure to accelerate the club head through the contact area will only leave the ball in the sand trap.

You must make a full and powerful golf swing in order to succeed.
