Basic
Fundamental Principles.
- (Changed - 20/10/2008)
On this page I have listed
the "Basic Fundamental Principles" in
order of priority.
It is important that you learn
and incorporate into your game if you wish to play very golf.
Work your way through the list in this
order and practice each one until it becomes embedded into
you subconscious mind before moving onto the next Basic Principle
and you will gradually improve your golf skills, however do
not try to practice more than one item at a time.
I will be highlighting these items throughout
the lessons and therefore all of this information will be
continually repeated, therefore it is advisable to digest
these basic principles before you begin the lessons.
On another page I have listed the "Basic
Fundamental Movements"
"
Eyes focused on the ball"
It is absolutely vital that you focus on
the back edge of the golf ball and hold this focus so that
you literally see the club head make contact with the ball,
but importantly, you must continue to look at the back edge
of the golf ball for a milli-second after the ball has been
struck so that you actually see the ball move away from its
resting position be it the tee, the fairway or the rough.
This is the first basic principles of the
golf swing that you must learn, if you fail to learn this
principle, you will never achieve a low handicap.
"Upper
Body Angles"
Maintaining the upper body angles is one
of the major keys to playing very good golf.
It is particularly important to adhere
to this principle so that from the precise moment the club
head makes contact with the ball, the right shoulder will
automatically rotate under the chin as the follow through
movement is performed.
"Golf
Grip "
One of the first thing you must get right.
"Shoulder/Arms-unit"
It is absolutely vital that the shoulders
and the arms are held firmly in this condition throughout
the golf swing. -- I cannot over-stress the importance of
adhering to this Basic Principle so that you can control the
alignment
of the club face throughout the complete golf swing.
Learn to rotate the shoulders and the arms
whilst held in this very compact condition and golfing skills
will increase dramatically.
"Elbows
held close together"
If you wish to play very good golf it
is absolutely vital that the elbows remain held as close together
as it is physically possible throughout the complete golf
swing movement.
Give this your full attention.
"Head
Position"
The head must be positioned so that the
left is slightly behind the golf ball at the address position
, but importantly, the head must be in this position as the
club head swings through the contact area.
"Hands
Position"
It is vital that you ensure that the hands
do not return to the original address position until the precise
moment the club head makes contact with the ball.
This is one of the most important basic
principles of the golf swing that you must master.
"Fixed
Frontal" position
It is absolutely vital that the head is
firmly held in this position whilst club head moves into and
through the contact area.
After testing various methods of hitting
the ball straight, I have come to the conclusion that this
basic principle is one of the most important keys to playing
very golf.
"Passive"
arms"
The arms must be remain totally passive
to the movement of the shoulder/arms-unit throughout the golf
swing movement.
"Forearms"
If you wish to play very good golf, the forearms must
not be consciously allowed to rotate during the back swing
movement, the folding of the right arm automatically causes
the forearms to rotate.
"Right
Shoulder"
It is absolutely vital that the right shoulder
rotates under the chin as the arms interact.
"Address
Position"
The set up is very important.
"Left
Heel"
The heel of the left foot must stay firmly
on the ground throughout the back swing movement.
"Condition
of the arms"
This is how the arms should be held throughout
the golf swing movement.
"Lower
Back Muscles"
It is absolutely vital that you use the
muscles of the back to rotate the compact upper body unit
to the end of the back swing movement.
"Right
Leg"
The right leg must be kept in a slightly
flexed but very firm condition throughout the back swing movement.
"Condition
of the Legs"
These videos show the correct and the incorrect
way to hold the legs as you perform the golf swing movement.
"Bottom
of the Swing Arc"
It is absolutely vital that you swing
the club head to the bottom of the swing arc.
"Impact
Position"
This is how the body should be at this
critical point in the down swing movement.
"Club
Resistance"
There is no need to make any extra effort
to "HIT" the ball as the club head is about to make
contact with the ball.
"Inertia
Effect"
Due to this phenomena, you must allow
for the delay in the various parts of the body.
"Left
Side Dominance"
It is absolutely vital that you adhere
to this principle.
"Parallel
to the Target Line"
The shoulders, the hips, the feet and
the head must always be aligned to the target line.
"Right
Arm"
The right arm plays a slightly passive
role throughout the golf swing but is used to boost the velocity
of the golf club at the precise moment the club head strikes
the ball but careful use of this facility is important.
"Swing Tempo"
The Golf Swing must be a free flowing
movement.
