Introduction. (Changed - 16/05/2008)

I have played golf for over 25 years and like many others I did not start playing golf until later on in life and gradually learnt to play a half decent game of golf by trial and error.

As I struggled to learn the game I could not understand how or why the professional golfer was able to hit the ball consistently straight and true, so about six years ago I began to research the workings of the golf swing to find out why?

My extensive research revealed the golf swing can be performed to a very high standard as long as the basic principles and the basic movements of the golf swing are followed.

For a number of years I have studied the technique of top class golfers, read countless golf magazines and digested all of the information that was offered to try to find out how the top golfers are able to consistently strike the ball with a high degree of accuracy in both direction and distance.
However t
he Professional Golfers and the Golf Instructors who contribute to the various golfing magazines offer all sorts of advice about the golf swing, but do not clarify the absolute basic principles of the golf swing therefore I decided to do my own research and the information that I have gained by this extensive research has dramatically improved the quality of my golf -- and it can do the same for you?

Therefore I have developed this website so that anyone who is prepared to learn these basic principles will begin to play much better golf sooner, rather than learn it by trial and error as I did.

Analysis of golfers.

The golfing fraternity is made up of men, women and children from all over the world who play the game of golf with different levels of skill, but there is a small percentage of these golfers who stand head and shoulders above the rest and are able to play top quality golf on a consistent basis.

You may wonder why these golfers are able to play the game with great skill whilst the remainder of us manage to play good golf one day and not so good on other days.

If you analysed and studied the statistics, you would probably find that most golfers that are presently playing or have played the game of golf at the top level started playing the game when they were very young, at a time when their body was still developing its muscle structure and therefore were forced to use the large muscles of the body such as the legs and the shoulders to incorporate power into the shot.

However the majority of us take up the game as adults, which means that they will have already developed a full muscle structure and thereby assume that this is the basic requirement to be able to strike the ball hard. - These are the golfers who find it difficult to master the game of golf.

Therefore the golfer who takes up the game later on in life uses an entirely different technique to perform the golf swing to those who begin to play golf at an early age.

If you have any doubts about my theory just think about this, if the youngsters can hit the ball as far as they do with an undeveloped muscular structure, why cannot we as adults with a fully developed, stronger, muscular structure, not hit the ball further. ???

It is all down to the correct technique of learning to swing the club head - through the contact area - a technique which you can learn within this website.

If there is one ingredient that the top golfers possess, it is a natural ability to watch the ball as the club head swings through the contact area, an action that also greatly assists in keeping the head positioned slightly behind the ball whilst the club head moves through the contact area.

The other ingredient that all top golfers possess is the ability to swing the club head through the contact area in a smooth accelerating manner until the club head reaches the bottom of the swing arc, thus eliminating the urge to "HIT" the golf ball.

To give you an idea of why I say this, you will notice that very good snooker players/tennis players/ footballers and cricketers often make very good golfers because they know that the ball must be watched at all times regardless of what game they play and they all ensure that either a snooker cue/football boot/tennis racket or cricket bat moves right through the contact area.

If you do not have this natural ability, you need to develop this skill if you wish to improve your golfing technique.

This is not a "quick fix" course of lessons. All of the movements that I describe will enhance the quality of your golf, but it important to understand that you have to practice each movement until it becomes second nature to you, so do not expect too much, too soon.

I have listed the lessons in logical order so that the golfer learns the correct movement of each part of the body by way of practice, therefore it is important that the instructions of each lesson are practised thoroughly before moving on to the next lesson.

Failure to understand this principle of how to change your golf swing will only cause the mind to become confused, so practice one movement very thoroughly before moving on to the next.

It will take many months of learning these new movements before you will see any significant improvement, however if you can discipline yourself to thoroughly learn each lesson before moving on to the next lesson, you will achieve the maximum benefit from my lessons.

It is also important for you to understand that it is not how fast you move the various parts of the body that makes the ball go a long way, it is how fast the clubhead is moving as it moves through the contact area.

However whether you swing the golf club at a fast speed or a slow speed there is one single item that applies:-

" The mechanical movements of the perfect golf swing remain the same"

Therefore I have designed these lessons specifically so that you can be seen to be playing better golf as you complete each section. So for your own speedy advancement I suggest that you keep to my schedule.
