Right Arm. - Master - (Changed - 27/08/2008)

At the address position the right arm must be in a slightly bent condition with the uppermost part of the right upper arm held against the upper body.

As the back swing movement is performed, the right arm will eventually be forced to fold, thus performing two functions:-

1) It forces the arms to move independently of the shoulders at the very end of the back swing movement.

2) It forces the forearms to rotate in a clockwise motion.

However during the down swing movement, as the shoulders rotate back to the original address position, the condition of the right arm is automatically reversed so that by the time the shoulders return to the original address position, the right arm will return to the slightly bent condition and the forearms will rotate back to the original address position. ( You do not need to consciously perform this action.)

Therefore during the full golf swing movement, you must try to keep the right arm in the fully bent condition for as long as possible as you perform the down swing movement, so that the rotational movement of the forearms is delayed from returning to the original address position, thus delaying the flailing action of the golf club for as long as possible.

Therefore the right arm should be held in the fully bent condition for as long as possible as the down swing movement is performed, the hands must not return to the original address position until the club head makes contact with the ball, and the club head must not make contact with the ball until the shoulders are parallel to the target line.

However at the precise moment the shoulders return to the original address position, the shoulders must stop rotating, albeit for a milli-second whilst the muscles of the left shoulder pull the passive arms into the contact area thus counteracting the inertia effect upon the arms, and then whilst the shoulders remain parallel to the target line, the muscles of the left shoulder pull the passive arms through the contact area, thus forcing the right arm to adopt the fully straightened position.

As you become more proficient as a golfer you may be able to assist in straightening the right arm at the precise moment the club head makes contact with the ball.
But this is an advanced technique, so before you introduce this action you must put in a lot of practice.
