Practice
routine. (Changed
- 03/03/2010)
Before every golf shot, I take a few practice golf swings as
follows in order to achieve some memory
retention:-.
During these practice swings I make a normal back
swing movement and then initiate the down swing by pressing
the ball of the left foot hard to the ground whilst simultaneously
and aggressively forcing the hips to rotate/pivcot towards the target
area and also quickly transferring the whole weight of the body
onto the left leg but the arms remain in a totally passive condition
so that the rotational movement of the shoulders literally swing
the passive arms/golf club into and through the contact area.
But as this action is being performed I ensure that the head
is positioned so that the left eye remains slightly behind the imaginary
golf ball position.
And as soon as the club head makes contact with the imaginary
ball, I ensure that the shoulders stop rotating, albeit for only
a nanosecond, but this time delay is sufficient time to allow the
passive arms/golf club to swing to the bottom of the swing arc -
an action that forces the right arm into the fully straighten position.
Practice on the Range.
In order to teach yourself to actually see the club head strike
the ball, go to the practice range and endeavour to focus your eyes
on the back edge of the golf ball at the address position and maintain
this focus of the eyes throughout the back swing and the down swing
movement so that you literally see the club head actually make contact
with the back edge of the golf ball on every shot you make, but
importantly you must also continue to look at the back edge of the
golf ball so that you actually see the ball move away from its resting
position.
Do not worry about where the ball goes, simply drum it into your
conscious mind that you must see the club head actually strike the
back edge of the golf ball with every shot.
At first you will find it practically impossible to actually
see the precise moment the club head makes contact with the ball,
but persevere and you will begin to actually see this physical contact
more often.
When you see the results of watching the club head strike the
ball and then actually seeing the ball move away from its resting
place, it will spur you on.
(If you want to understand what I mean by literally seeing the
club head strike the ball -- If you hold a very sharp sewing needle
in your left hand and then tried to physically touch the tip of
the needle with the index finger of the right hand, you will note
that to avoid being pricked by the needle you have to literally
watch the tip of the needle very carefully and watch the tip of
the finger actually touch the tip of the needle - this is how you
intensely you must watch the back edge of the golf ball during the
golf swing so that you literally see the physical contact between
the club face ond the ball.)
You may wonder why you play such good shots at the driving range,
but when you play on the golf course you cannot repeat the good
shots consistently.
Well, the main reason is that when you are on the range, you
are totally focused on the mechanical action of the golf swing whilst
the direction that the ball goes is not that important.
Therefore when you play on the golf course, set yourself up
to make a golf swing and put aside any thoughts of where the ball
will go, trust your set up and the mechanical action of the golf
swing that you practised on the golf range and simply perform the
golf swing.
By eliminating any thoughts of where the ball will
go, it will allow you to fully concentrate on simply performing
the mechanical actions of the golf swing.
If you wish to play very good golf, you must fully
concentrate on performing the actual golf swing movement but the
main key to playing very good golf is to actually see the physical
contact of the club head striking the back edge of the golf ball..
